A primary care visit is a chance to talk about your health, ask questions, and decide on next steps with a clinician. You do not need to have everything figured out before you arrive.
Before your appointment
Consider writing down the main reason for your visit and any questions you want to remember. A current medication and supplement list can also be helpful. If you have records from another clinician that you want reviewed, ask the office how to share them securely.
During the conversation
Tell your clinician what is most important to you. If something is unclear, ask for it to be explained in another way. It can help to repeat back the plan so you both know what happens next.
After the visit
Follow the plan you discussed, and contact the office if you have questions about follow-up or instructions. For urgent or emergency concerns, use an appropriate urgent care or emergency service.
